Whether you are expecting your first baby or are looking for a refresher course, Cuidiu ICT offers something special in the line of Antenatal Classes.

"Cuidiu" is Irish for "caring support"; this is the atmosphere in which all Cuidiu ICT activities are conducted. Cuidiu antenatal classes are special because they are not just about your birth but also about the new role you are embarking on as new parents. CUIDIU classes are fun and informative. The classes use your own existing knowledge about birth and parenting - be it myth or fact, newly gained from books or old knowledge passed to you by parents or siblings. This knowledge all contributes to how you will 'BE' as a parent and is the cornerstone of how the classes are run. We facilitate you gaining the knowledge that you require rather than teaching. The classes are certainly not like school.

We do need you to wear comfortable clothes (no denims lads - they don't stretch) and to be prepared to take off your shoes and get down on the floor and participate in fun learning activities, i.e. card games, use of birthing ball, etc..

At the same time these classes provide evidence and research-based information about pregnancy and birth to assist you to make your own informed choices.

The Classes assist you and your partner to be confident in your ability to give birth the way YOU WANT…in hospital or at home!

Classes provide you with knowledge on hospital procedure such as Inductions Caesareans and more and help you to understand the effect of many of these procedures on your labour.

You will also learn about natural birthing , and will practise and learn about a wide variety of practical coping skills, such as stress relief, dealing with fears, breathing, relaxation, massage, exercises, and birthing positions.

The classes build on information learnt each week so that you do not feel overwhelmed with information and end the course feeling confident that you have the knowledge to make the right decisions for you during your labour.

The classes are also special in that each week we will look at the changes that having a baby might bring to your lives as a couple, from breastfeeding to coping with housework.

Full courses of classes include an additional "reunion" gathering after all the babies are born to deal with any postnatal issues that may arise and to offer help and support during the early days of Parenting and especially Breastfeeding.

The Classes are small and informal (max 6 couples, so early booking is advisable), making it easy to ask your questions and to get individual assistance with your own issues and concerns. It's also great to "compare notes" with other mothers or couples and to have their continuing support as your children grow together.

Partners are included in all classes. The man's perspective is included in all topics - from the pregnancy and preparing for the birth together to life with the new baby and your changing and growing relationship.

CUIDIU ANTENATAL INSTRUCTORS are accredited through the Irish Childbirth Trust after completing a Diploma course in Antenatal Education. This programme is accredited by Luton University in the UK. I have been accredited now for over 10 years.

I am also a Breastfeeding Tutor with Cuidiu and have been qualified as a breastfeeding counsellor for 18 years.
I am also an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and provide private consults both antenatally and postnatally to ensure a great start to breastfeeding.
